Algeria Street at the junction with Algeria Road showing the corner shop at no 34
15th July 1964, Looking across Malvern Road to the junction with Algeria Street. The shop occupies premises on the corner and sells groceries and 'local grown caulis, cabbages, carrots and peas.' The house with the white door is number 32, then there is an entrance to an outside toilet, before number 30. The shop keeper stands at the door to greet customers.
My parents, Harry & Annie Thornton bought this shop, 12 Malvern Road, in 1937 and ran it as a greengrocers and mixed business until Dad retired around 1957. I married Mary in 1948 and our first house was a bedsit in the upstairs front room over the shop. Later, we moved across the road to 37 Algeria Street which appears on another photograph on this site.
