Thornton's Arcade, clock
Undated.
Interior view of Thornton's Arcade showing a close-up of the clock featuring characters from Ivanhoe which was built by W. Potts & Sons. The arcade, which runs between Briggate and Lands Lane, was built by Charles Thornton, of the White Swan Inn, in 1877 to designs by George Smith; the clock was added in 1878. This was the first arcade in Leeds built on the former Talbot yard site. The arcade was refurbished in 1997.

Memories
I used to work in a shop called Wallace Dawes in Thorntons Arcade in the 60's. The clock became part of our working day especially when it chimed 6.0.clock on Saturday night!!! Happy days.
Does anyone else remember working at Wallace Dawes?
