Cross Flatts Park, Glass Shelter
Undated. A man and a small child pose for the camera in Cross Flatts Park. The camera is pointing in the direction of Beeston Road. Left of centre is an octagonal, glass panelled shelter with seating.
The Octagonal glass panelled structure with seating all the way around, was when I was "a lad", known as "The Old Men's Shelter". It was situated at the top end of the park, above the band-stand.It seemed to us, to be for the old men exclusively; what with its tables for cards and dominoes, and cribbage, and a glowing pot-bellied stove in winter. As children, if we tried to enter, we were always shown the door, and we would exit politely.
