Roundhay Park, Children's Day
Undated. View showing crowds of spectators watching a display of Maypole dancing at the annual Children's Day at Roundhay Park. This was a popular event, attended by schools from all over the city, which ran from 1920 until the 1960s. Children took part in physical exercise displays and dancing and a Queen was crowned each year.
The massed displays by the pupils of numerous schools from around Leeds were very popular. We all wore either red, blue or white shirts, and gave a display of gym exersises, the finale was always a moving tableau, with Hill 60 being the best spot to view it.
