I understand that in the very early days of Marshall Mills, this building, or maybe some other part of the Marshall complex, had its roof covered with several inches of soil, on which grass was allowed to grow. Sheep were then introduced in order to graze. The plan, although good in theory, proved to be unsound in practice, when the roof collapsed, and soil, grass, and sheep fell in, and on to the floor below. At the moment I have no further details. Can anyone expand???
